Porta Grande

This project began with a detailed sketch from the artist specifying the materials, construction, and overall form. He envisioned a wooden frame built in a precise architectural shape that matched the structure in his drawing. A full model of the artwork was first sculpted in wax. This allowed the artist to draw, carve, and imprint textures into the surface using a variety of tools. Once the frame and wax reliefs were completed, moulds were created for the electro-forming process. Through this method, the detailed impressions were faithfully transferred into copper, resulting in richly textured panels that reflect the artist’s original gestures and intentions.
A key requirement was the integration of a mechanism allowing the three panels to open and close smoothly, with adjustable positioning so the piece could be displayed either mounted on a wall or standing securely on the floor. The final piece consists of three sections, joined with custom hinges and completely covered in textured copper sheeting, resulting in a refined, durable, and visually striking artwork that remains faithful to the artist’s original concept.
