Richard Hughes

Richard Hughes (born 1974 in Birmingham, UK) is a British contemporary artist acclaimed for his sculptural and installation works that explore themes of decay, memory, and the passage of time. Employing meticulous casting techniques, Hughes recreates everyday objects—such as discarded clothing, worn-out furniture, and urban detritus—in materials like polyester resin and fiberglass. These replicas, while appearing as found objects, are carefully crafted to evoke a sense of nostalgia and the ephemeral nature of human experience.

Hughes studied at Staffordshire University (1995) and Goldsmiths College, London (2003). His work often blurs the line between reality and illusion, transforming mundane items into art pieces that challenge perceptions of value and permanence.
